Elizabeth M. Peck

Elizabeth M. Peck (Tish), 92, of Creamery Road, North Egremont, died peacefully with her family at her side, Thursday, Feb. 4, 2010, at Great Barrington Rehabilitation and Nursing Facility where she had been a resident for the past three years.

Born in Englewood, NJ, Dec. 12, 1917, daughter of the late Walter and Adelaide (Dingler) Vanderbeek, she attended Teaneck High School, and moved to the Berkshires in 1935. She married the late George L. Peck on Jan. 28, 1936, who died Sept. 9, 1978.

She was an active member of the North Egremont Baptist Church, Egremont Grange and the Oxbow Players, a local theatrical group in Egremont, where she directed the play “Ten Little Indians.” She worked as a caregiver for many years to a number of local families and prepared hot school lunches for the one-room North Egremont School.

Elizabeth enjoyed being a wife and mother, traveling to Maine and Florida, playing golf, crocheting and knitting, weekly card games at the Senior Center in Great Barrington, and church activities.

She leaves her two sons, Leland W. Peck of St. Petersburg, FL, Gregory E. Peck and his wife Jeanne, of North Egremont, MA; one daughter, Marilyn P. Granger and her husband Henry, of North Egremont, MA. She is also survived by five grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild, along with numerous nieces and nephews.

She is predeceased by her brothers Al, Harvey, Walter, and Vincent; her sisters Ida and Lillian.

A very special thanks to the Great Barrington Rehabilitation and Nursing Facility staff for the exceptional care given during her stay, along with Dr. Bush and his staff at East Mountain Medical.

MEMORIAL NOTICE: At Elizabeth’s request, there will be no calling hours and burial will be at the convenience of the family.
