Alfred "Fred" Marcel Fehn, age 86, passed away at home on September 25, 2026. He was born in Glen Cove, New York on April 1, 1940, to Alfred August Fehn and Marie (Schwab) Fehn. Fred graduated from Mount Everett Regional School in 1960, and he enlisted in the United States Army in 1962, where he was stationed in Germany as a fire control operator working with HAWK surface-to-air missiles. After returning home, he followed in his father's footsteps as an estate manager at Steepletop in New Marlborough, Massachusetts, and he took immense pride in maintaining the property for nearly fifty years.

An avid outdoorsman, Fred loved hunting, fishing, canoeing, snowmobiling, four-wheeling, playing softball, and gardening. In his earlier years, he was an avid and award-winning snowmobile racer, a passion that showcased his adventurous spirit. Alongside his love for nature was his well-known reputation as a prankster—a trait that leaves behind endless stories and memories that continue to bring smiles today.

Fred leaves behind a legacy of laughter, generosity, and unforgettable memories. To know Fred was to know a man who lived life fully—he was the life of the party, a steadfast friend always willing to lend a hand, and the energy of every family gathering. Though life brought challenges in his later years, those who loved him choose to hold tight to the good times, his kind heart, and the happiness he brought into so many lives. He will be remembered most for his infectious humor, his generous spirit, and the deep, lasting impact he left on everyone fortunate enough to share in his best years.

Fred is survived by his best friend and devoted caregiver, Brooke Fehn; his sister, Yvonne Stephens; his brothers, Robert Fehn (Patricia) and Paul Fehn (Sharon); his niece, Tiffany Stephens; and his nephews, Nicholas Fehn and Alan Fehn. He also leaves behind two grand-nephews, two great-grand-nieces, and a loving extended family. He was preceded in death by his parents, his nephew, Mark Stephens, and his brother-in-law, Gerald Stephens.

Calling hours are on Saturday, October 10, from 1:00 to 3:00 PM at Finnerty and Stevens Funeral Home in Great Barrington. A private burial will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Fred’s name to Harold D. Rood American Legion Post 350, PO Box 231, Southfield, MA.
