Anton F. Luttenberger

Anton Francis “Tony” Luttenberger succumbed to recently diagnosed cancer on August 22, 2025, at Albany Medical Center in Albany, NY. Tony was born in Brooklyn, NY on October 11,1944, to Barbara Spann Luttenberger and Anton F. Luttenberger. He graduated from Archbishop Malloy High School and Stonybrook University.

A true seeker, he traveled the world for many years, buying art and textiles for a gallery in New York City. Tony explored and lived in many countries throughout Asia and Europe. Among his many adventures, he climbed Mt. Everest.

His true passion was yoga which he studied in India with world renowned yogis. He made the practice and teaching of it his life’s work. Tony continued his daily yoga practice until he was hospitalized in mid-July.

Upon his return to the United States, Tony lived in New York City, San Francisco, CA, and Great Barrington, MA, where he resided at the time of his death. For two decades, he maintained a home in Key West, Florida. Tony was a yoga therapist and yoga instructor in Key West, New York City, and the Berkshires in Western Massachusetts. He taught in many different settings including jails, hospitals, schools, nursing homes, and health centers. In Key West, he specialized in yoga therapy for pregnant women and AIDs patients. For decades, Tony used the practice of yoga to help those recovering from addiction. For many years, he directed the yoga and fitness program at New Age Health Spa in the Catskills.

Tony leaves his wife of nearly 34 years, Karen Luttenberger of Great Barrington, MA, his sons, Aaron Z. Luttenberger of Austin, TX, and Eli G. Luttenberger of Great Barrington, MA, and a daughter, Crystle Maillet (Bernard Maillet) of Woodstock, NY and their daughters, Avery Espinoza and Cecilia Maillet. Tony also leaves his sister-in-law, Wendy Smith of Santa Monica, CA, and his brother-in-law, Ronald F. Smith (Rebecca) and their son, Daniel Smith of Sherman Oaks, CA. Tony is also survived by his nieces Molly MacKenzie-Smith (and her daughter Harlow Mackenzie-James), Dakota Smith, and Sasha Smith, along with his mother-in-law, Marion A. Smith of Danbury, CT. He also leaves cousins, nephews, nieces, and many friends throughout the world.

Tony was predeceased by his daughter, Frederica Luttenberger, and his brother, Robert Luttenberger.

Service - An informal celebration of Tony’s life will be held on Sunday, August 31, 2025, at Berkshire South Community Center, 15 Crissey Road, Great Barrington, MA from 1:00 p.m. - 4:30 p.m.
