David Giannini

Mar 19, 1948 — Oct 5, 2026

Becket

David Giannini passed away suddenly and unexpectedly on October 5, 2026. He

started his day as he loved to do, sharing the morning sun with his beloved wife,

Pamela Bachrach, with whom he enjoyed thirty-seven loving and devoted years.

To say that David was a prolific poet is a classic case of understatement. He was the

author of more than fifty chapbooks and books. His most recent book is “Lamp of

Whispers / New and Selected Prosepoems.” David was nominated for The American

Book Award and twice for a Pulitzer Prize. He received a 2021 Finalist Award from The

North American Poetry Review. David taught at various colleges, and his work has

appeared in numerous magazines and anthologies.

David was uniquely David. A presence. A pillar. A delight to chat with on any topic.

David lifted you up with every encounter – with his twinkle, his dry humor, his mere

attention. A Teddy-Bear of a man: physically solid, tall, and strong, combined with a

gentle and generous warmth. He had an infectious sense of humor and laughed every

day. David was larger than life.

David is survived by his adoring wife Pamela Bachrach and his three stepsons: Jay

Carlson, David Carlson, Chris Carlson, and their five children. David also leaves behind

his stepmother Elizabeth Giannini and three brothers, Paul Giannini, Brian Giannini, and

Gregory Giannini.
