David Samuel Wells, 74, passed away on Thursday, February 4, 2016 at his home in Sheffield, MA.
A native and lifelong resident, David was born in Sheffield on November 21, 1941, the son of Leonard and Marie (Tompkins) Wells. He was a graduate of Mt. Everett Regional H.S. (1960) and the Stockbridge School of Agriculture, UMASS Amherst (1962).
David was a building contractor and leaves numerous beautiful homes that he either built or historically renovated. An active member of his community, David was a founding member and clerk of the Sheffield Commission on Disabilities. He was a member of the Cincinnatus Masonic Lodge A.F. & A.M. and Past Patron of the Cincinnatus Chapter No. 146, Order of the Eastern Star, both in Great Barrington, and Wisdom Chapter No. 130, West Stockbridge, as well as a member of the York Rite.
David is survived by his wife of 38 years, Nanette (Heintzelman) Wells, whom he married on October 1, 1977 in Great Barrington. He also leaves siblings: Shirley Anne (Wells) Baldwin, Loraine Marie (Wells) Fisher, Raymond A. Wells, Antronet Jean (Wells) Clukey, and Allen Lee Wells. Brother Jack Samuel Wells predeceased David.
He is survived by nine children: John Cranston (J.C.) Wells and wife Tamara; Marie Ida (Wells) Burr and husband Richard; Leonard Samuel Wells, II and wife Marnie; David Samuel Wells, Jr. and wife Manda; Lisa May (Wells) Tufano and husband Alan; June Marie (Wells) Banks and husband David; April Jean Wells; Krysti Hanna R. Booton and Pat Dancisin; and Ian Matthew Booton and wife Mary; and many grandchildren and one great grandchild.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, February 9, 2016, 4–7 p.m. at Finnerty & Stevens Funeral Home, Great Barrington. A celebratory reception will follow at 7 p.m. at the Sheffield American Legion Hall.
A memorial service and interment will be held at a later date.
