Dorothy H. Rattazzi passed away on Sunday, April 7, 2024 at age 96. She was born in New York City on July 29, 1927 to Arthur J. and Dorothy (Hart) Huether. She is survived by her devoted daughter, Patricia Murphy; her five grandchildren, Raymond, Beth, Chris, Debbie, and Eileen; their spouses; and eight great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her grandson Steven in 2000 and her son-in-law, Raymond Murphy, in 2019.
Dorothy was raised in Queens and went to work at age seventeen at Best & Co, where she had a long career at a time when it was rare for women to work outside the home. She accomplished this while raising her daughter as a single mother before there was any acknowledgement, respect, or accommodation for women in that position. She committed her life to her daughter, her career, and also to her devout faith in the Catholic Church. After she married her husband, Dick Rattazzi, in 1980, the couple relocated to Florida, where Dorothy was an enthusiastic volunteer at Holy Family parish in Port St. Lucie. Dick passed away in 1982.
Dorothy’s family would like to thank the staff at Mount St. Carmel Care Center, where she was loved and cared for as though she was family, and they became part of her family. We could not be more grateful to everyone who loved and cared for her in her later years.
