Dr. Frances Lippmann of Stockbridge, MA passed away peacefully on April 4, 2024. In her 90 years she was a psychologist, daughter, mother, aunt, grandmother and wife and friend to many.
Dr. Lippmann was born in Brooklyn, Ny and moved to Freeport Long Island where she spent her early life. While in Freeport, Dr. Lippmann was a street car drag racer, enjoyed time on her family boat and helped out in her father’s car dealership and played on the Freeport High School Field Hockey Team as team captain.
Embarking on her adult life, Dr. Lippmann attended Adelphi University and continued on to get her Doctorate in Psychology from NYU where she and her soon to be husband who was also studying in the same program first met. She received her doctoral training at Bellevue Hospital where she was among the first women Ph.D.’s in her department.
Upon leaving NYC Dr. Lippmann was hired as the first psychologist in western MA to be part of a districtwide special education evaluation team in the Berkshire Hills Regional School District and acted as a mental health counselor at the schools in the area.
Dr. Lippmann and her husband co-created a free of charge clinic for mental health care in Stockbridge, MA. Dr. Lippmann enjoyed her work in private practice for many years in her house in Stockbridge as well as serving as the director of the counseling center at Williams College. In this role she trained multiple active psychologists in the Berkshires.
Dr. Lippmann was a member of WMAAP and the Stockbridge Dream Group and enjoyed being a member of and hosting the annual celebration of the Rapaport-Klein Study Group at her home in Stockbridge.
Dr. Lippmann was predeceased by her late husband Dr. Paul Lippmann of Stockbridge. Dr Frances Lippmann is survived by her son John, his wife Jennifer and their children Heru, Phoenix and Lavender as well as her daughter Eve Jennings her husband Sean, her grandchild Joseph, his wife Caitlin, Dr. Lippmann’s great grandchildren Aurelia and Sonia as well as her grandchild Lily and her partner Josiah and her god-daughter Patricia Andrew
SERVICE - A celebration of Dr. Lippmann’s life will take place on Sunday, April 14, 2024 at 11:00 am at Finnerty & Stevens Funeral Home followed by a burial service at Stockbridge Cemetery.
