George H. Mielke, Sr. age 94 passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family. George was born on January 18, 1927 to William and Laurinda Longdyke Mielke at Fairview Hospital in Great Barrington, MA.
George attended local schools and enlisted in the US Army during World War II. He was stationed in Okinawa during his time in service.
George married his wife Mary Katherine Dutcher-Mielke on December 17, 1949. They raised their three sons George Jr., Theodore, and Donald Sr. in South Egremont, MA.
In 1963, George began his own business in Sheffield, MA. He was the owner of George H. Mielke, Sr. and son’s Salvage Yard and Used Auto Parts. George’s sons will continue to operate the family business.
George is survived by his sons George Jr, Theodore and his partner Carole, and Donald Sr. and his wife Heidi. George is also survived by his sibling Virginia Mielke Race. He also leaves behind one grandson Donald Jr. and a great-granddaughter Mary.
George’s wife Mary predeceased him on April 30, 1994.
SERVICES – The family will receive friends on Friday, September 17th from 5:00pm-7:00pm at Finnerty & Stevens Funeral Home in Great Barrington, MA. Funeral services will be private.
