Gerard “Jake” George Gerdin passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, at his home in Dennis Port, Massachusetts,
surrounded by his loving family. He was 83 years old.
Jake was born on September 22, 1943, in Brooklyn, New York, to George Frank Gerdin and Margaret Fairbanks Gerdin. At a young age, Jake and his family moved to West Stockbridge, Massachusetts, where he spent much of his life and became a cherished member of the community.
Jake proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1961 to 1963, receiving an honorable discharge. Following his military service, he returned to West Stockbridge, where he worked alongside his father as a meat cutter at the family-owned West Stockbridge Public Market.
In May 1964, Jake married Elizabeth Marby, and together they welcomed their son, Michael, the following year. After Elizabeth’s passing, Jake married Christine Stone on September 25, 1971, and together they welcomed four children: Brian, Matthew, Tammy, and Kathleen.
Jake was deeply devoted to his community and held several public service positions throughout his years in West Stockbridge. Among his many accomplishments, he was especially proud of serving as Fire Chief for many years. His dedication to serving and protecting others reflected his strong character and commitment to the community he called home.
In 1983, Jake sold the West Stockbridge Public Market and moved his family to Middleboro, Massachusetts. He eventually retired to Cape Cod, where he enjoyed his later years surrounded by family.
Jake was predeceased by his parents, George and Margaret Gerdin; his brother, Paul Gerdin; and his wives, Elizabeth and Christine.
Jake leaves behind his five children and their families: his son Michael Gerdin (Barbara), granddaughters Meghan and Elizabeth Thompson (Ryan), and great-granddaughter Grace; his son Brian Gerdin (Robin), and grandson Cody; his son Matthew Gerdin (Katie), granddaughter Ally, and grandson Evan; his daughter Tammy Price (Brian), and grandson Ethan; and his daughter Kathleen Gerdin, granddaughter Makayla and great-grandsons Kenneth IV and Bellamy, and granddaughter Alanna Dailey.
