Giuseppe (Joseph) Chighine, 81, formerly of Hartsville died peacefully on July 11, 2014 in Westerly, Rhode Island. He was born on May 15, 1933 in Sardinia, Italy where he was raised. He served in the Italian Army from 1952 - 1954 and then moved to London, England where he met his wife Jessica Campbell. They were married there in 1959 and moved to the United States in 1965. Giuseppe started his culinary career at Dunphy's Tavern in South Windsor, CT and later moved to the Red Lion Inn in Stockbridge where he was maitre` d'. Giuseppe decided after seven years of "slaving in the kitchen for someone else", he'd open his own business and thus the birth of "Hillside Restaurant" which he and Jessica operated for 32 years! Customers came from far and near for a dining experience like none other. Giuseppe was famously known for his Clams Oregenato which were the best anywhere! After closing the restaurant in 2004, Jessica and Joseph retired to Westerly, RI to join their children and grandchildren; Gianni and Claudia, Paige and Peter Chighine, Joseph's only survivors. He was predeceased by his son Peter in 1977. Liturgy of Christian Burial for the late Giuseppe Chighine will be held on Monday, July 14, 2014 at 10:00 A.M. at Our Lady of the Valley Church in Sheffield, MA, conducted by Rev. Bruce Teague, Pastor. Burial will follow at Lee Memorial Cemetery in Southfield, MA.
