Jacqueline Hawkins

September 6, 1941 — February 24, 2023

Jacqueline Hawkins passed away on February 24, 2023 at Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield, MA. She was born on September 6, 1941, the daughter of Jack (killed in WWII) and Peggy Double.

Jacqueline met her husband, David Hawkins, while he was stationed at Bentwaters Air Force Base near Woodbridge, Suffolk, England. They got married when Jacqueline was 21 in Woodbridge at St. John’s Church across the street from her childhood home in July of 1961. They moved to America in 1963 and moved into the house on Glendale Road where they built their life and family.

Jacqueline was an active congregant in the Stockbridge Congregational Church and was a pleasure to be around. She was a member of the Service League for 40 years and served as president, later becoming a Board of Trustee member and a deaconate. She also helped with the monthly Feeding the Hungry event at the Stockbridge Grange Hall and became an honorary lifetime member. She also became a lifetime member of the Teetotaler Club in Stockbridge.

After raising all of her children, Jacqueline decided to get her driver’s license and entered the catering world with Bonnie Bailey. They worked together for many years until Bonnie passed.

Through her service, Jacqueline became extended family to many, many families, with them often reaching out to her directly to plan parties as recent as this past holiday season. She worked in the kitchen at Austin Riggs for a few years, and was a personal care assistant for Lee Visiting Nurses Association.

Jacqueline had a heart for service and found numerous ways to love and support her family and community throughout her entire life. She never became an American citizen but loved this country and it was where her home was and where she dedicated her adult life to.

Jacqueline is survived by her son, Christopher Hawkins, of Pittsfield, MA, her daughter Brenda Hawkins (John Wilson) and their son Hunter Wilson, who she adored of Austerlitz, NY, she is also survived by her older brother, Maxwell (Linda) Double and their five children: Theresa, Louissa, Clarissa, Karl, and Simon all of Woodbridge, England. Jacqueline had a very strong relationship with her in-laws and also leaves behind her brother-in-law Kevin Hawkins of Southwick, MA.

She was predeceased by her husband David, and her parents Peggy Double and Edward G. Hunt (Uncle Curly). She was also predeceased by Virginia and Kenneth Hawkins, her mother-in-law and father-in-law, whom she grew so very close to when she moved to America from England.
