James M. Palmer

James Palmer, 72, died on Monday, June 28, 2021, at his home in Mill River, MA.

He was born on September 25, 1948, in Chatham, NY, the son of Alonzo W. and Doris (Van Deusen) Palmer. He married the love of his life, Kathryn (Crockett) Palmer on January 25, 1969 in South Egremont, MA.

James was self-employed and specialized in lawn care and outdoor maintenance. He also worked at the Berkshire School for 13 years.

James was an avid golfer and member of the Mt. Everett Country Club. He was active in his community and took part in the Sheffield Sporting Club, served as the president of the Monday night mixed bowling league, and played in the men’s softball league. He also enjoyed fishing and hunting and was a dedicated Red Sox and Patriots fan. Additionally, he served as the cemetery commissioner in New Marlborough.

Jim’s greatest joy came from watching his children and grandchildren grow into happy and healthy adults, each flourishing in their own endeavors.

James is survived by his loving wife Kathryn Palmer, his two daughters, Melissa Rivera and husband Kenny, and Sandra Tinker. He is also survived by his five grandchildren: Nicholas Joyce, Hannah Joyce, Shelby Tinker, Madison Tinker, and Meghan Rivera. He also leaves behind his three sisters and three brothers, Dawn Mattie and husband Gary, Linda Palmer, Emma Palmer, Frank Palmer, George Palmer, and Joseph Palmer.

James was pre-deceased by two brothers and two sisters, William Palmer, John Palmer, Ruth Corna, and Barbara McArthur.

SERVICES – A service celebrating Jim’s life will be held on Saturday, July 3 rd at 12:00 PM at Finnerty & Stevens Funeral Home in Great Barrington, conducted by Rev. Jill Graham.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, July 3 rd from 10:00 AM until 12:00 PM at the funeral home.
