Janice L. Storti

Janice L. Storti, aka “Stort”, beloved teacher for the Southern Berkshire Regional School District died September 7, 2023 at Fairview Hospital in Great Barrington.  She was 82 years old.

Born in Westfield, MA on May 2, 1941, she was the daughter of James Francis and Genevieve Sofia (Pinas) Humason.  Upon her graduation from Westfield State College in 1963 she was immediately hired by Mt. Everett Regional School System where she remained for over 50 years. During her teaching career she served as the high school newspaper advisor, Cum Laude advisor, curriculum leader, graduation advisor, National Honor advisor, and the GED language arts instructor just to name a few.  Jan was also a mentor for new teachers.  In 1999 she was named “Teacher of the Year” by the Westfield State Alumni Department. Although she officially retired on June 30, 2006, Janice would often return as either a long-term substitute teacher or to assist a new teacher.  She impacted many students over her long and distinguished career.

When not at school with her students, Janice enjoyed gardening, reading, writing and traveling abroad.

Janice is survived by her daughter Blythe A. Storti of Housatonic, MA and her granddaughter Genevieve Madeline Pratt of Boston, MA.

She was predeceased by her parents, James and Genevieve Humason and her brother James Humason.

Service – A service celebrating the life of Janice Humason Storti will be held on Monday, September 25th at 4:00 PM at Finnerty & Stevens Funeral Home, 426 Main Street, Great Barrington, MA 01230.
