JOHANNA B. (MATTES) KEHN Johanna B. (Mattes) Kehn, 94, passed away peacefully at her daughter's home in South Egremont, MA on July 22, 2014 under the compassionate care of HospiceCare in The Berkshires. Born in Erfurt, Germany, Johanna immigrated to America at age 3 with her father Walter Batze and mother Marie Riehmann Batze. She grew up in Albany, NY and graduated from Albany High School. Most of her childhood was dedicated to studying and playing the violin. Music remained Johanna's passion her entire life, and resulted in her playing with organizations such as The Albany Symphony, The Music Company of Saratoga Springs, and a number of performing groups in Florida. Johanna lived for many years in Selkirk, NY, summering at her Adirondack camp in Northville, NY until the death of her husband, Henry F. Mattes, in 1982. It was during this time that Johanna worked as a bookkeeper for Albany Billiard Ball. After her marriage to Louis C. Kehn in 1984, she spent her time between Glenville, NY and Venice, FL. Before moving to South Egremont, MA in February of 2014, Johanna also spent nine joyful years at Coburg Village in Rexford, NY. Johanna is survived by her daughter Christina (Mattes) Wignall of South Egremont, MA, step daughter Carol McNeal and husband Glenn of Bradenton, FL, step-son Ronald Kehn and wife Lynn of Burnt Hills, NY, ten grandchildren and three great grandchildren. She also leaves behind many dear friends that she gathered throughout the years. She was predeceased by her step-son Martin M. Mattes. By request there will be no calling hours. Burial will take place at a later date at Saratoga National Cemetery. Memorial Contributions may be made in Johanna's name to Good Shepherd Church of Glenville, NY or HospiceCare in The Berkshires through FINNERTY & STEVENS FUNERAL HOME, 426 Main St., Great Barrington, MA 01230.
