John D. Mullany, 78, passed away Tuesday, November 2, 2021 at Geer Nursing Home in Canaan, CT.
He was born on October 22, 1943 in Great Barrington, MA, the son of James “Ike” and Anne (Levenz) Mullany whom operated the former Wayside Inn on Stockbridge Road where he grew up.
John was a very educated man. He received his Associate in Science degree from Berkshire Community College in 1964, his Bachelor of Science in Education from North Adams State College in 1967, and his Master of Education from North Adams State College in 1973. His years of service in education in the Berkshires supported many students. He mostly taught grades 3-6 and covered all subjects but his passion was in teaching Math and Science.
Outside of his impressive work accomplishments, John loved the farmhouse where he trained thoroughbred horses from 1980 until the Great Barrington Fair closed. The farmhouse is now the Captain Truman Wheeler Museum. John loved animals, nature walks, and was a local history buff. He was also an active golfer and loved to read.
John is survived by his beloved wife Linda Mullany, and his son, Christopher J. Mullany. He is also survived by his four siblings Jeanne, Anne, Peter, and Jimmy, as well as many nieces and nephews.
