Lavon D. Frye

November 28, 1928 — August 15, 2024

Lavon Darlene Husom Frye “Vonnie” of Lenox, Massachusetts passed away on August 15, 2024.

She was born in Dodgeville, Wisconsin to Melvin and Alma Peterson Husom. She graduated from Dodgeville High School in 1946, after which she worked for Farmers Mutual Insurance company in Madison, Wisconsin. It was in Madison where she met Kenneth Frye, an army veteran who was attending the University of Wisconsin, and they were married in 1949. Together, Lavon and Ken raised three children, living in Wisconsin; Pennsylvania; and Lee and So. Egremont, Massachusetts. Lavon was a member of the Egremont Garden Club, and an accomplished “green thumb.” She and Ken enjoyed many ski vacations with their children when they were young, and she later took up cross country skiing, which she enjoyed as much as she did the hikes she shared with Ken. Lavon enjoyed playing bridge, and she and Ken were a formidable team for many years. She also enjoyed traveling with Ken throughout the United States and around the world, extending Ken’s business trips into vacations. Later, after retirement, she and Ken traveled and cruised with friends. She was a member of Grace Episcopal Church in Great Barrington.

She is survived by two sons, Michael of Pittsfield, Massachusetts and Thomas of Grand Junction, Colorado; and a daughter, Susan O’Connell (Brian) of Greenville, South Carolina. She is also survived by five grandchildren, five great grandchildren, and two brothers, Norman and Dennis Husom.

She was predeceased by her husband, Ken, in 2018 after 69 years of marriage; and by her sister, Joyce Johnson.
