Mary Walker Wilcox, 95, a longtime resident of Alford passed away on Sunday, July 27, 2014 at Fairview Commons in Great Barrington. Born in Brooklyn, New York on February 5, 1919 she was the daughter of John and Grace Johnston Moult. She graduated from Adelphi College (now Adelphi University) in 1941. She won several tennis championships in her college years. Mary married her husband, the late Randall O. Walker, Jr. at Crystal Brook Park Chapel in Mount Sinai, New York on June 21, 1941. The couple moved to West Stockbridge, MA in the late 1940's and together they raised three children. From 1956 through 1965 Mary ran a home bakery business "Farmstead Kitchen" in West Stockbridge where she sold her baked goods based on the honor system. She was a doting mother to her three children. She served as a Girl Scout, Cub Scout and Boy Scout Leader for several years in the 1950's and early 1960's. She was also a teacher's aide at the former West Stockbridge Village School during 1968 and 1969. Following the death of her first husband she sold the farm and moved to Alford, MA in 1979. Mrs. Wilcox was an active member of her community. She served on the Alford Library and Conservation Committees. She was also a member of the Alford Garden Club for over 40 years. She volunteered as a Ladies Aide at Fairview Hospital in Great Barrington for over 35 years. She married her second husband Frank A. Wilcox, Sr. in Alford, MA on April 21, 1984. Mary was devoted to her family. She hosted Thanksgiving dinner for her immediate and extended family members for 50 years. She was a passionate person with a wide variety of interests. She loved to travel, especially to historical sites; she was a history buff. She was an avid reader, loved the ballet and theater in particular Shakespeare. Mary enjoyed outdoor sports and activities including camping. She was passionate when it came to nature conservation and her flower gardening. She is survived by her daughter Cathy J. Walker of Alford, MA, her daughter-in-law Lynn W. Walker of West Stockbridge, MA, her grandson Michael J. Walker and his wife Carolyn of Providence, RI, her grandson Kevin R. Walker and his wife Julie and their children Ryan and Ava of York, ME as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her first husband Randall O. Walker, Jr. on December 19, 1978, her son Randall O. Walker, III on July 12, 1972, her son John F. Walker on December 16, 2000 and her second husband Frank A. Wilcox, Sr. on April 6, 2006.
