Mrs. May S. Wheeler, 91, of Prospect Lake Road died June 6, 2014. Born in Springfield, Vermont on March 30, 1923, May was the daughter of the late Milton and Julia Burton Slater. She was a 1941 graduate of Springfield, VT schools. May received a child care certificate for her training at St. Margaret's Home for Babies and Children in Albany, NY. She worked many years for families in the Albany area. May was devoted to taking care of her family and enjoyed spending time with them and her friends. She is survived by her husband, Roland B. Wheeler, whom she married May 13, 1950; three loving children, Kevin Wheeler and wife Dian, Airlie Ohman and husband Leonard all of North Egremont, MA and Dona Kellogg and husband Jerry of Barefoot Bay, FL; two special grandchildren, Karena Gardino and Patrick Nilson; one great-granddaughter, "GG's sweetheart" Madison Gardino; and many caring cousins, nephews and nieces. She was predeceased by her sister, Dorothy Putnam and granddaughter, Deanna Nilson. The Wheeler family would like to thank her many kind caregivers. A graveside service will be held on Thursday, June 12th at 11 a.m. at Riverside Cemetery, Route 71 in North Egremont, conducted by Rev. Charles VanAusdall. A reception will follow the service at the North Egremont Fire Station on Route 71.
