Michael C. Stephen, 75, of Main Street, Stockbridge passed away on November 25, 2015 at Sloan Kettering Hospital in New York City.
Born July 27, 1940 in Englewood, New Jersey he was the son of Lloyd and Edna Jensen Stephen. He attended Oakwood High School in Dayton, Ohio. He graduated from Dartmouth College, class of 1962.
Michael enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1962. He was stationed at the Army language school in Monterey, California and later in Verdun, France. He was honorably discharged in 1965.
Mr. Stephen worked for the U.S. State Department in Hong Kong and in Washington, D.C. He then worked at Morgan Guaranty Trust Company in New York and Manila, Philippines. In 2013, he retired as Chairman of the Board of Directors of Mekong Bank, Phnom Penh, Cambodia.
Volunteer work was an important part of Michael’s life. Locally he was a member of the Stockbridge Rotary Club and was a volunteer at the Norman Rockwell Museum and The Stockbridge Library. During his time in Asia, he was a member of the Board of Directors of The American Chamber of Commerce in Manila, Philippines, Singapore and Cambodia.
He is survived by his daughter, Laura Stephen of Brooklyn, NY and his son, Sean Stephen and his wife Tracy of Stockbridge, MA. He also leaves his grandson, Aidan Palermo, his granddaughters, Molly and Bridget Stephen as well as his former wife Mary G. Stephen of Great Barrington.
