Pamela Krol, 75, of Sheffield passed away February 4, 2022 in the loving arms of her family and friends. She was born in Chicopee, MA to Richard and Blanche Millette. Pamela leaves her husband, Robert of 53 years, along with daughter Kathleen and sons Joseph and Robert and wife Lizzett; and three grandchildren; Jared, Charlotte, and Lyla Krol. She also leaves three brothers with their families: Richard and Marge Millette of Sheffield; David (deceased) and Linda Millette of Chicopee; Michael and Kathy Millette of Belchertown; and sister-in-law Carole and Thomas Frappier of Enfield.
Pamela was a well-known figure in Great Barrington as she spent her life in retail sales. Beginning as a teenager, Pamela worked at Peerless Department Store in Springfield and later Steigers in Westfield. When she and her husband moved to the Berkshires in 1975, she worked at Mahaiwe Jewelers in Canaan. Upon graduating from her coursework at the Gemological Institute of America in New York, she and her husband owned and operated Krol Jewelers for 17 years on Railroad Street and later Main Street here in Great Barrington. With her ability to work with people, Pamela was a founding member of the then Railroad Street Merchants Association. She was directly responsible for the creation of the Railroad Street Renaissance Street Fairs, the forerunner and model for today’s popular town-wide Summerfest.
Pam added her organizational talents to a fledgling Southern Berkshire Chamber of Commerce where she reorganized the office of director and also worked to create the BerkShares program. For her efforts, Pamela was voted Southern Berkshire Chamber Volunteer of the Year in 1994.
When the jewelry store closed, Pamela then became manager of Steilmann’s European Fashions, located first in Great Barrington and then at the Prime Outlets in Lee. She later managed a jewelry store in Orleans on the Cape and served as a sales representative at a jewelry store in Andover. When she retired back to her home in Sheffield, Pamela volunteered her time and energy to membership drives and fundraising activities for the Great Barrington Historical Society.
