Richard Kenneth Hooper died on March 18, 2021 at the age of 89 after a lengthy illness. He is survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Chester D. Hooper and Stephanie Shires Hooper; his nephew, Christopher Hooper and his wife, Kristina Hooper; his niece, Elizabeth Hooper Bala and her husband, Raja Bala; and grandniece and grandnephews Clark Hooper, Madeline Hooper, Lucas Bala, Ben Hooper, and Graham Bala.
Dick earned his BA degree from Trinity College in Hartford, Connecticut where he was a member of the fraternities, Alpha Chi Rho and Phi Beta Kappa. He received his JD degree from the University of Chicago Law School, which he attended on a full academic scholarship and where he was a member of its Law Review. He practiced law with the firm of Breed Abbott and Morgan (now Whitman Breed Abbott & Morgan LLC) for many years in its real estate department. He was a longtime and dedicated member of the Knickerbocker Republican Club. He was also a member of the Amateur Comedy Club and the University Club. He was passionate about maintaining and improving Central Park and volunteered for many years with the Central Park Conservancy.
