Ruth Ruriko Shibuya

Ruth Ruriko Shibuya, 82, formerly of Great Barrington, MA died Saturday, April 6, 2024 at Geer Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in North Canaan, CT.

Born June 21, 1941 in Honolulu, Hawaii she was the daughter of Rinzo and Fujiko (Kajiue) Shibuya.  Ruth graduated from Kaimuki High School.  She went on to receive a Bachelor’s degree from San Fransico University, her Master’s degree from Indiana University followed by her Ph.D. from Purdue University.

A lifelong educator, Ruth dedicated her life to teaching public health.

She was a member of the First Congregational Church in Great Barrington and Wyantenuck Country Club.

Ruth is survived by her brothers, Clarence and Melvin Shibuya and her sister-in-law, Patrice.  She also leaves her nephews, Eric, Brandon and Trevor and nieces, Laura, Kelli and Megan.

She was predeceased by her brother, Thomas and her nephew, Jimmy.

SERVICE - A service celebrating the life of Ruth Shibuya will be held on Saturday, May 4th at 1:00 pm at Finnerty & Stevens Funeral Home in Great Barrington.  The family will receive friends from 12:00 PM until the time of the service.
