Toivo R. Tossavainen, Jr.

Toivo R. Tossavainen, Jr. (aka Captain Toss), 79, passed away August 17, 2023 at Fairview Hospital in Great Barrington, MA.

A native and lifelong resident, he was born on August 12, 1944 in Great Barrington, MA, the son of Toivo Sr. and Ann (Skorput) Tossavainen. He attended local schools and graduated from the former Searles High School.

Toivo married his beloved wife, Irene (Souza) Tossavainen, on October 5, 1968 and together they enjoyed more than fifty years of marriage. The couple owned and operated Capt. Toss Seafood & Restaurant in Great Barrington for thirty-five years. After selling the business and retiring, they wintered in New Smyrna Beach, Florida. Toivo was preceded in death by Irene in 2020.

Toivo leaves his two sons, their families, and two grandchildren. He also leaves his brother, John Tossavainen, and his wife, Cindy Tossavainen, as well as a niece and several nephews.

SERVICE - The family will receive friends on Monday, August 28, 2023 from 9:00 to 11AM with a service to start 11:00 A.M directly following calling hours at the Finnerty & Stevens Funeral Home 426 Main St. Great Barrington, MA.
